EPA reviews none of them, so the useful comparison is what each one actually includes, especially whether the proctored test is in the price.

Named here without numbers
Some well-known options are missing from the table because we could not verify their current price or contents from a primary page on the check date, and an unverified price is worse than none.
Interplay Learning offers video courses with live online proctoring, sold as a team subscription without a public price. Mainstream Engineering is an EPA-approved certifying program; its site wasn't reachable from our network on October 7, 2026, so we list no figures. Pocket Prep, Mometrix and Union Test Prep sell 608 prep that we could not open to check. Quizlet hosts user-made 608 sets; we didn't review them.
One claim to discount wherever it appears: "real exam questions." Certifying programs draw questions at random from EPA's bank under proctored conditions (40 CFR 82, Appendix D (a), (e), eCFR as of October 5, 2026), so a prep product claiming to reproduce them is making a claim no outsider can check. That applies to our questions too: they are practice material written for study.

- Standalone course or manual
- Suits a reader who wants the full text and plans to book the test separately. Check the edition against the exam version you'll take.
- Flashcards
- Suit the number-heavy rules: evacuation levels, leak rates, dates. The free EPA 608 flashcards on this site cover the ones that come up most.
- Question-practice app
- Our iPhone and iPad app suits someone who learns by answering questions: more practice questions, organized by Core, Type I, II and III, each with an explanation. It has no Android version and doesn't include the test or a card.
- A study schedule
- Whatever you buy, a calendar keeps it from sitting unopened. The EPA 608 study plan has 4-, 8- and 12-week versions.

Is SkillCat's EPA 608 a real certification?
SkillCat is on EPA's list of approved certifying programs, approved November 18, 2020 (EPA certifying programs list, checked October 7, 2026), so passing its proctored test earns a 608 certification. Its membership price is $10 a month or $96 a year, with the physical card $50 extra (SkillCat FAQs, checked October 7, 2026).
Does ESCO sell practice questions?
Yes, inside its $32.95 Interactive Preparatory Course Bundle, alongside text, lectures and flashcards; the test itself is a separate purchase, $85 for ESCO's online-proctored exam (ESCO store and 2026 exam pages, checked October 7, 2026).
Can I prepare for free?
Yes. The EPA 608 study guide, practice test, timed mock and flashcards on this site are free. You will still pay a certifying program for the proctored test.
